Counting My Blessings

Holiday Storm & Blessings

We are drawn into the holiday season like a hurricane approaching.  At least that is how I feel.  We are all running around like crazy, making plans with family and friends that we may be traveling to see or receiving as guests. It’s such an insane time of year!

Be Present

But underneath all the pumpkins and gourds, turkeys, wreaths and mistletoe, it is a time of reflection and introspection. It is a time to count our blessings. Even if you are not trying to think about your life, the holidays sort of force you too. As you gather with the people that you love to share and connect, take the moments in.  Be present as much as possible.  By present, I mean not only show up, but be present with your attention. Set your phone down and have great conversation. As I do this, I try to concentrate on all things positive.

One of the most blessed things in my life is my wonderful family who are always supportive of me no matter what wacky ideas I want to chase.  I love the holidays, even all the craziness, because I get to spend more quality time with them doing things that I rarely get to do the rest of the year, like baking cookies and preparing huge meals.  My parents, sons, their wives and only grandchild will all be spending Christmas with me in Florida this year and I couldn’t be more excited!

Making Connections

As I continue to reflect, I can say that I am grateful for this blog.  I am grateful to have an outlet in which to write and connect with other people.  What is amazing to me is that through this blog, I link with people from all over the United States and beyond.  A person follows me, I follow them, another person follows one of us and the link continues and continues. That literally blows me away!

YOU are my Blessing!

I am also grateful to each and every one of you who has taken the time to read this very post and any or all of the previous posts. Wandering around this great country is what makes this blog and the opportunity I have to travel such a gift.  I am grateful that I get to explore so many towns and parks and mountains and beaches. Each place has something unexpected and it is always fun to find out what that is.

Human Spirit

I am also grateful for the people that I meet each day on my travels.  I meet people in airports, grocery stores, coffee shops and street corners who share something about themselves with me and I with them.  It keeps my faith in humanity alive.  We are blessed that the human spirit is such an amazing force.

Unconditional Love

How can I speak of being grateful without mentioning my faithful companion, Scout the Beagle. What a blessing she is! Scout loves me unconditionally and always has a lick, a bark, or a tail wag to greet me when I come through the door.  Whether it’s my house, a hotel room, or someone else’s house we’re visiting, she doesn’t care! Scout makes every day better.  It’s that simple.

Enjoy the Holidays

As I finalize, I am already thinking of all the food I am going to eat and all the people I am going to hug!  I will gain a few pounds and you know something? I don’t care! I want to laugh and have fun and enjoy the moments with family and friends. And for that chance, I am grateful. What are you grateful for?

Happy Wandering!

Loved your new post! Lots to think about. I appreciate the reminder to be present during each and every moment, especially during the holidays.

Thank you Hilda! I think it is important to be present with our attention and this is a reminder to me as well. Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend with all of your family.

I am grateful for my friends that are my sisters in life. I would not be the person that I am today if it weren’t for them. They have cried with me when I thought I couldn’t go on, they have laughed with me till my stomach ached and they have been there for all the in between times. My life is so much richer with them in it and I cherish the time we spend together. They sustain me in ways that no others can. You all know who you are… I am so very thankful for you!!

Very well said Jill! I feel exactly the same way. My “sisters in life” love me and accept me for who I am and are there for me wherever the road leads. I love them dearly…
